Southsea nightclub owner Steve Kingsley says business is booming

Kingsley’s in Osborne Road, Southsea, has been a popular hot spot for over-25s for the past 10 years. The bar has been host to many special nights and several couples have met there. 

Steve, from Anchorage Park, puts the club’s popularity down to the friendly staff and the entertainment 

Steve, who also DJs, said: ‘It’s the old concept of playing the right music, boy meets girl, and things work out well. We play music from all eras and it pulls people in. There’s not too many places that cater for middle of the road music, where you play a bit of everything.

‘We did the place up a few years ago and it looks good. I’m a people person and we talk to people and they feel comfortable. We don’t get much violence and we make people feel good.’ 

The bar serve cocktails which Steve says are very popular. 

‘The ladies like a cocktail,’ he said. ‘We’ve got a cocktail maker who does all his tricks and the ladies love that.’ 

Steve started DJing when he was 25 years old. He has DJed at Nero's, Honkey Tonk Bar, Hoddy's and at South Parade Pier. He also ran nightclub Buddies at the Pyramids for 13 years before opening Kingsley’s. Despite turning 70 this year, he’s showing no signs of slowing down. 

He said: ‘The business has always been popular. If you’ve got skills with people like me, then you pass it on to people. I always make people feel good. I never take the mick or abuse people. When you get up and DJ, you make people feel good with your music.’
