CHANGES to Southsea town centre will begin on Monday with improvements starting in Osborne Road.

The Osborne Road work will see a better environment created for people using the area including wider pavements, new paving, improved crossing points and raised kerbs at bus stops.

It follows a consultation carried out last year which found residents to be in favour of the planned improvements as 76 per cent voted for improved crossing points, 66 per cent were in favour of additional planters and 58 per cent supported wider pavements.

The work is scheduled to finish in November and will begin at the western end of Osborne Road. Pavements will be partially closed at times but there will be diversions for pedestrians and no buildings will be blocked off.

Councillor Donna Jones, leader of Portsmouth City Council, said: ‘It is fantastic news that this work is getting under way. It is a great example of the council listening to what people want and delivering it.’
