A Portsmouth-based law firm has won one of the legal profession’s most prestigious national awards.
Lawyers from Blake Morgan – specialists in regulatory and compliance law – were named Regulatory Team of the Year at The Lawyer Awards at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
The awards, run by The Lawyer magazine, are a highlight of the year for the legal profession and the event is attended by more than 1,300 law practitioners.
Winners are decided by a panel of judges made up of legal experts from businesses including Selfridge’s, GlaxoSmithKline, Kingfisher and Channel Four.
The judges were impressed by the achievements of Blake Morgan’s 70-strong regulatory team, which has solicitors and barristers based in North Harbour in Portsmouth.
Bradley Albuery, head of the regulatory practice group at Blake Morgan, said: ‘I am incredibly proud that the quality of our client service has been recognised by the panel at this leading law awards event.
‘This award is testament to the hard work and dedication of our regulatory specialists across Blake Morgan’s offices and cements the team’s position as the leading regulatory group in the UK.’
The team acts for high-profile healthcare regulators, including the Care Quality Commission, the General Pharmaceutical Council, the General Dental Council and the General Osteopathic Council, as well as professional bodies such as the Solicitors Regulation Authority, Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants and the Architects Registration Board.
Blake Morgan has acted for the Nursing and Midwifery Council for more than 25 years.
During 2014, it managed the investigation of more than 500 cases regarding allegations of misconduct, lack of clinical competence and issues affecting a registrant’s fitness to practise.
The firm also carries out prosecution work for statutory agencies including the RSPCA and the Health and Safety Executive and defence work on behalf of insurers.
The firm has five other offices across the south, including Cardiff, London, Oxford, Reading and Southampton.
