McAndrew Martin Ltd recorded the rise in surveys and valuations, reporting a strong start to the year.

Director of general practice Ian Lee said: ‘This sharpening of demand may be due to increased confidence among young buyers or a demonstration of the continued pressures on the property market.

‘Although Help to Buy can appear complex, it does offer a route into property ownership for many people who may not otherwise be able to get onto the ladder.’

‘We always advise anyone interested in Help to Buy or similar schemes to consult local professionals who are members of the Portsmouth Property Association (PPA).’
