Students bask in advice at college employment fair

Pupils from South Downs College Havant College were given advice and information about their future careers and the routes they could go down.

More than 50 exhibitors attended the event, held at South Downs College as part of National Apprenticeship Week, and told students about opportunities available to them.

Aaron Butson, director of business, growth and innovation at South Downs organised the event with his team.

He said: ‘Our main aim as a college is to get young people ready for work or university, so this event was an extension of that drive.

‘There were a mixture of employers actively recruiting, others who came just to talk about their industries, recruitment agencies, and more.

‘We had a very good turnout and a lot of students went away with help and advice.

‘A lot of the employers that were at our fair last year are here again this year, because it’s beneficial for them as companies too.’

Lucia Crown, 18, studies law, English, and psychology at South Downs.

She attended the employment fair and said: ‘I’m looking for an apprenticeship in law as an alternative to university.

‘I wanted to see if there were any law firms I could speak to – there were three different ones and they were all very helpful.

‘I came away with advice about the different routes I could take in my career.

‘There was a lot on offer at the fair.’
