SUPERFAST broadband is being rolled out to Wickham, Stubbington, Lee-on-the-Solent, Hayling Island and Petersfield.
It is part of BT’s £2.5bn high-speed fibre broadband network upgrade, which will help speed up the connections to more than 33,000 homes and businesses in Hampshire.
The upgrades are due to be complete next year, and the news has been welcomed by Hampshire County Council.
Council leader Ken Thornber said: ‘This technology will be of great benefit to the increasing number of households and businesses in these areas who use the internet for work, shopping, entertainment and leisure.
‘Hampshire County Council wants to encourage people to sign up to its broadband campaign so that more people understand the benefits that faster broadband can bring and will take up this exciting technology as it becomes available in their communities.’
The latest investment will take the total number of homes and businesses in Hampshire able to connect to the fibre network to nearly 600,000, including within Portsmouth.
