Supermarket spreads festive cheer by giving out 18,000 mince pies

RESIDENTS in certain Portsmouth postcodes have been treated to free mince pies by a supermarket.

Tesco has been delivering the treats to help customers get into the festive spirit. It is on a tour of 18 towns and cities across the UK, giving out 1,000 packets of mince pies in each location. People living in Portchester were delighted to receive the treats last week.

Any customers not at home received a voucher so they can pick up their gift in store.

A spokesman for the supermarket, who will dropping off the pies, said: ‘I’m really excited that this pie-in-the-sky idea worked so well last year and I’m back for a second helping. I can’t wait to spread some more Christmas cheer and get everyone in the festive mood.

‘This year, I’ll be knocking on even more people’s doors handing out free packs of Tesco mince pies and wishing them a Merry Christmas.’

The tour will be also stopping at Exeter, Gloucester, Merthyr, Oakham, Corstorphine, Aberystwyth, East Didsbury, Northwich, Wellingborough, Barnstaple, Redditch, Exmouth, Yeovil, Yeading, Pontardawe, Shrewsbury and York.
