Superstores join drive to up rates of recycling

Supermarkets including Tesco, Waitrose, Budgens and the Co-op are joining a push to increase recycling.

The firms are linking up with Chichester District Council as part of this year’s Recycling Week from September 12 to 16.

Councillors and officers will be in Tesco Extra, Chichester; Waitrose, Chichester; Budgens in Midhurst; and the Co-op in Selsey High Street, at various times during the week, answering questions and providing people with information. Those visiting Tesco Extra will also be encouraged to take part in a recycling challenge and will then be entered to win £100 of shopping at the store.

‘We are so grateful to all of the supermarkets taking part in this campaign,’ said Cllr Roger Barrow, cabinet member for the environment at the council.

‘We know that people are keen to recycle and that they understand its importance.

‘However, regular reminders on what you can and can’t recycle go a long way to reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill.’
