Support for homeless lunch

A POPULAR Southsea curry house has pledged its support to a campaign to help feed the hungry.

The initiative is being run by Don’t Hate, Donate, a grassroots movement in Portsmouth that aims to unite communities and help those most in need. The group is offering a free hot meal every Saturday at midday from Portsmouth’s Guildhall Square.

Akash in Albert Road, Southsea, has volunteered its help. Faz Ahmed, from the restaurant, said they were proud to take part.

One of the organisers Shipa Khan, from Don’t Hate, Donate, encouraged people to get involved.

She said: ‘To us, helping the homeless is about more than a blanket and a hot meal. Every Saturday we will host a social gathering for the homeless and those who are simply hungry. We’ll provide great food, raid our stores for anything they need, chat, comfort, laugh and unite.’
