LOTS has been done but there is still more work to be done before the America’s Cup 2017, Sir Ben Ainslie has said.

The Olympic sailor, who this year unveiled his plan for a Portsmouth base for his race team, wrote in the Daily Telegraph that while he has put a team together that has already done a massive amount of work in the past year, there is still ‘so much work to do’.

He said: ‘We’re a team of 60 people. We are building a state-of-the-art 74,000sq ft base in Portsmouth, we’ve launched the 1951 Trust with the Duchess of Cambridge as royal patron and we’ve designed and modified our first testing boat. We’ve achieved a phenomenal amount in a short space of time.

‘But we know there is still so much work to do, and money to be raised, if we want to achieve our goal of becoming the first British team to win the America’s Cup in 2017.’
