Tickets now on sale for Portsmouth's Oktoberfest

TICKETS are now on sale for Portsmouth's version of the world-renowned Oktoberfest.

It comes after a licence was granted for the event, to be held in Europe’s largest beer tent structure at Guildhall Square, by council bosses.

The spectacle, to be held from Friday, October 28, and Saturday, October 29, is being put together by the organisers of Portsmouth’s Victorious and Mutiny Festivals.

And they believe it could become ‘the fastest-selling festival in Portsmouth’s history’. Oktoberfest Portsmouth – inspired by the famous annual event in Munich – will kick off on the Friday evening from 6pm and run through to 11pm.

A Saturday afternoon session will be held from midday until 5pm. And the final session takes place that evening from 6pm to 11pm. As reported by The News, there will be Bavarian-style entertainment for guests, with live music and street theatre, as well as an abundance of German food.

Mutiny Festival boss and beer festival co-organiser Luke Betts has said he anticipates the occasion will attract up to 15,000 people over the two days – and provide a massive boost to the local economy.

The occasion is also being held as part of attempts to improve links with Duisburg, which Portsmouth is twinned with. The beer tent would swallow up the majority of Guildhall Square, including the statue of Queen Victoria, as well as the steps leading up to the Civic Offices.
