A ROTARY club and travel agency have teamed up to help disadvantaged children.

Boxes filled with gifts are being shipped to children in the Philippines, Albania and further afield thanks to the Rotary Shoebox Scheme.

Fareham Rotary members have been busy collecting donations for the appeal and business partners Hays Travel recently made a substantial donation.

Club president Bob Marshall praised the travel firm when he visited its new Fareham branch to collect the shoeboxes.

The boxes are filled with toys, toiletries and educational items and do not contain anything of a political or religious nature.

Since the scheme began, over one million boxes have been distributed to disadvantaged children throughout the world.

Some of the gifts should be received just in time for Christmas.

Mr Marshall said: ‘We joined Rotary to try and make a difference and hope we will have made a small contribution to the lives of the recipient children,

‘It lets them know the people of Fareham care about their plight in their world of poverty.’
