Two businesses move into former Denmead bank

NatWest in Denmead closed five years ago, despite much opposition from villagers.

Businessman Tim Dobby, who lives in Denmead, had the idea of refurbishing the building so that he could live and work in the village.

Because of the way the rooms were divided inside, it took four years to complete the renovations work but Capital Softwood has now moved in.

Councillor Neil Lander-Brinkley, who sits on Denmead Parish Council, said: ‘One day Tim began to wonder why every day he was driving through heavy traffic to his offices and thought how nice it would be to walk to work instead.

‘He lives in Denmead with his wife and young family, having started his business in 1998.

‘When Tim realised the premises could be bought he discussed the idea with an architect and acquired the former bank.’

The building will be shared by Southdown Financial Planning and will also have a residential flat above it.

Cllr Lander-Brinkley added: ‘It is particularly pleasing that the high specification first-floor flat will soon be home to a young couple, both of whom are local to Denmead.

‘All in all it’s a real good news story for Denmead.’
