TWO post offices are to undergo major renovation as part of a rolling programme of modernisation.
The post office in Elm Grove, Southsea, and the Post Office in Hill Park, Fareham, are both in line for upgrades.
The post offices, which are in Southern Co-operatives stores, will re-open on Thursday, February 19 at 1pm.
There will be three counters at each and two main screened positions open Monday to Saturday from 9am until 5.30pm and on Saturday from 9am until 5.30pm.
There will also be a post office serving point at the retail counter, offering selected services during shop opening hours.
This is an extra 60-plus hours a week, which includes all day Sunday and Saturday afternoon.
The post offices will close temporarily for the works from 5.30pm on Tuesday, February 10.
Alternative branches which can be used in the interim include:
- Fratton Post Office, The Bridge Shopping Centre, Somers Road North, Portsmouth;
- Southsea Post Office, Southern Co-op, Palmerston Road;
- Fareham Post Office, West Street, Fareham;
- Titchfield Post Office, The Square, Titchfield.
Adrian Skinner, post office area manager, said: ‘We know how important post office services are to residents.
‘We are confident these vibrant modern post offices, situated right at the heart of their communities, will be popular.
‘The modernisation is part of a major government investment programme that is enabling us to continue investing in the post office network and to map out a bold growth strategy to the end of the decade.’
