A series of power cuts is affecting homes in Southsea, Copnor, Cowplain and Lovedean this afternoon.

Southern Electric Power Distribution says 1,160 homes were without power in London Road, Kendal Close, Galaxie Road, Lincoln Rise and Granada Close part of Cowplain.

Homes in the Woodstock Avenue area of Lovedean were also affected. All have now been reconnected.

Currently 371 homes in the Allcot Road and Green Lane area of Copnor are also without power.

A spokesman for the firm said: ‘We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause.’

And at about 6.45pm residents in Whitwell Road, Southsea, heard a loud bang and the power was knocked out.

The eletricity company said it was believed to be a fuse box problem in a link box - one of the green boxes at the end of the street - and said it had sent out engineers to investigate.

It also said it did not know whether this power cut was connected to those earlier in the day, and that it did not believe that many residents were affected.
