A GROUP of women have donated £1,000 to a charity helping veterans.

The HMS Sultan Wives’ Club gave the cash to Shore Leave Haslar, based in the grounds of the former Royal Hospital Haslar in Gosport.

Shore Leave Haslar runs in the walled memorial garden of the former Royal Hospital Haslar, offering a peaceful place for gardening therapy.

Margaret Bailey from the Wives Club said: ‘Every year, one of us takes it in turn to nominate a local charity or organisation to support.’

The club is made up of retired service wives, offering friendship to women with spouses who served in the navy.

It wants to raise more cash at the Heritage Open Days at the base in Gosport on September 14 and 15.
