SCORES of shoppers queued outside the new Aldi store in Gosport as it opened today.

The new shop, on Mumby Road, officially opened this morning at 8am and people queued outside from 7.30am eager to be the first ones in.

It is the first Aldi to open in the town with the nearest one in Fareham town centre.

For Gosport residents, the new store is a welcome sight.

Jeanette Baldwin said: ‘I normally go to the Aldi in Fareham so it is great to have one in Gosport.

‘It is a good addition to the town centre.’

Aldi was also celebrating a landmark as the Gosport shop is the 100th to open in the south west region.

Store manager Mark Dunnington, said: ‘Aldi is proud to be opening its 100th store in the region and we hope that customers enjoy the reduced Specialbuys on offer.’

Specialbuys occur every Thursday and Sunday and offer customers a range of products from gardening supplies to electrical goods.

The new store will be open from 8am until 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am until 4pm on Sunday.
