A WASTE management provider based in Portsmouth has unveiled its new fleet of purpose-built, 26 tonne vehicles to improve its national waste collection operation.

The new vehicles, which are the first DAF 26 Tonne Euro 6 vehicles in the UK, add to an already established national fleet.

With its head office in 1000 Lakeside, and 19 depots across the UK, Hippo operates a nationwide collection and recycling service to domestic and business customers.

Managing director Gareth Lloyd-Jones said: ‘This latest investment in the new vehicles is a landmark moment for this business.

‘It’s amazing to think we started this business 12 years ago with one truck operating in Hampshire and now we have a national fleet of over 50 vehicles and have collected over one million bags of waste.’

As part of the build process, Hippo chose four partners who they were confident could deliver to their exacting standards – DAF, HMF Cranes, KBF Trailers and Gecko Graphics & Signage.

Hippo has worked with DAF for more than 10 years because of the benefits that its large dealer network, experience and compliance support could offer.

The company says investing in the DAF Euro 6 technology and being able to rely on the lead times that DAF promised and delivered to were important to ensure Hippo is able to continue offering its service through the busy summer period.

The first of Hippo’s new fleet was launched yesterday in Portsmouth.
