Bowlplex at Gunwharf Quays has transformed into Hollywood Bowl Portsmouth, home to ‘a great night out for all the family’.

The centre now comes complete with 26 brand-new regular and four VIP bowling lanes, a Hollywood diner, an American-style bar, an amusement area, and a buzzing atmosphere.

Reece Badger, the centre’s manager, said: ‘The refurbishment of this site has been in the pipeline ever since Hollywood Bowl took over Bowlplex, a year-and-a-half ago.

‘The whole centre has been done up and now has a Hollywood theme. Before it was just a bowling alley where you went to bowl, now we give you a complete experience.

‘We feel the new centre encompasses Gunwharf, it’s a very stylish retail and leisure outlet full of flagship stores and this is now one of Hollywood Bowl’s flagship sites.

‘We’ll be just as prominent as the other businesses on site. Our American diner sells gourmet hot dogs and burgers, freshly-made shakes and signature desserts.

‘The VIP lanes provide visitors with an enhanced experience in a plush area. We’ve also got a big amusement space with industry-leading games and pool tables.

‘This has all been done to give people something different for a night out.

‘We’re great value for money because everything is under one roof – food, drink, bowling and fun.

‘Grandma can do this with the grandchildren and friends can play together.’

As part of its all-American look the centre hosts a number of icons on its walls such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and Elvis Presley. For children there are references to Shrek, Toy Story and other favourites.

Madeleine Storey, who bowled at the new centre, said: ‘It’s completely different from the old Bowlplex, that was a bit dingy but now the atmosphere is really good, and the place looks so much more modern.’
