THE firm which is in charge of taking away waste water in the Portsmouth area has been praised for its high levels of corporate responsibility.

Southern Water was ranked among the highest new entrants in Business In The Community’s (BITC) 2013 Corporate Responsibility Index.

The index is a measure of corporate responsibility, which includes managing environmental impact, managing its workforce and how it serves its community.

In what was its first ranking by BITC, Southern Water was awarded silver status.

Geoff Loader, Southern Water’s director of communications, said: ‘The BITC measure looks at our corporate responsibility performance across all aspects of our business.

‘So to get this mark on a first assessment is an excellent result.’
