Waterlooville MP speaks of his concerns over drop in recycling

Meon Valley MP George Hollingbery was concerned that recycling rates have fallen in the area he covers, East Hampshire and Havant.

He told The News: ‘It is disappointing to hear that recycling rates have fallen. When I visited the Waterlooville Household Waste Recycling Centre a couple of years ago, I was impressed with the work they were doing to recycle as much of the stuff which came through their gates as possible. I do think we have to be a bit careful making snap judgements with statistics like these without seeing the detail.

‘I will be writing to Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and to the councils which cover my patch to ask them for a more detailed explanation about why the levels have fallen.’

He added: ‘Recycling is incredibly important. We all need to make sure that we recycle as much as possible and we tackle fly-tipping and other abuses of the system.’
