Tory environment boss, Councillor Rob New, said: ‘This is great news. Eastney has had an ‘excellent’ rating for some time and now Southsea has the same. Having two top-rated beaches will help tourism and boost our reputation even more as the Great Waterfront City.’

Southsea Beach was ranked as ‘poor’ in 2013, but has steadily improved since. It achieved a ‘good’ rating last year before the 2016 inspection.
