FRESH calls have been made for Portsmouth City Council to reclaim the £1m it spent clearing up the Camber Dock to ensure the Ben Ainslie Racing project went ahead.
The authority had hoped the government would refund the money, but that has not materialised.
Labour group leader Councillor John Ferrett said: ‘We have all been persuaded by the benefits of the America’s Cup base. ‘But we are not persuaded by the level of subsidy from council taxpayers that has been used to fund this, not least in a time of austerity.
‘We are still waiting for our £1m. That money would clearly have been useful in helping us out.’
