When to see the Portsmouth Christmas lights switched on today

Portsmouth's city centre Christmas lights will be switched on this afternoon

It’s the latest in a series of events as shopping areas across Portsmouth begin the Christmas countdown.

Large crowds are expected in Commerical Road for this afternoon’s event.

Visitors will be encouraged to browse in the Bavarian-style Christmas Market during the day, and then enjoy the entertainment on the main stage from 4pm to 6.30pm. Santa and his special guests will be turning on the Christmas lights at 5.30pm.

Other forthcoming events include:-

Cosham Lights Switch On

Head to the north of the city on Wednesday 23rd November for Cosham’s Christmas Cracker. There will be entertainment in Cosham High Street from 4pm to 6pm, culminating in a fireworks finale at 6pm.

Christmas in Albert Road

Head to the Salvation Army Lighthouse Community rooms on Saturday 26th November for the Christmas light switch on. The big event will run from 4pm-6pm.

Paulsgrove Christmas Light Switch On

The big switch on for Paulsgrove’s Allaway Avenue is set for Friday 2nd December. Celebrations kick off at 4pm.

Guildhall Square Christmas Carols

On Monday 5th December, over 1,000 local schoolchildren will take part in Portsmouth City Council’s schools Christmas Carol Concert on the steps of the Portsmouth Guildhall. The free, family event will begin with the lighting of the magnificent Christmas tree located in the centre of Guildhall Square, and a visit from Santa himself!
