When will the shops be opening and closing over Christmas?

There are so many ways to spread the Christmas cheer. With that, shopping has become a crucial part of the festive season so here is a list of supermarket opening hours over the holidays.

Tesco

- Tesco Extra and Express stores across the city will open as usual until Christmas Eve when stores will open from 6am until 10pm. All stores will close on Christmas Day.

- Stores will open from 8am until 10pm on Boxing Day and normal opening hours will apply until New Year’s Day when stores will open from 8am-10pm. Normal hours will apply from January 2 2017.

- Tesco Metro, Cosham will open as normal until Christmas Eve when the store opens from 7am-7pm. The store will close on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Normal hours apply on December 27th until New Years Eve when the store will open from 7am - 7pm. The store will then close on New Year’s Day and open as normal from January 2 2017.

Sainsbury’s

- Sainsbury’s stores in Commercial Road, Portsmouth and Farlington will open as normal until December 19. The stores will then open from 7am- 10pm until December 21. Late night shopping hours will be in operation from December 22 to December 23 with stores open from 6am until midnight.

- Stores will open from 6am until 6pm on Christmas Eve and all Sainsbury’s stores will be closed on Christmas Day.

- On Boxing day stores will be open from 9am until 5pm and December 27 stores will open from 9am until 6pm.

- From December 28 to December 30, Sainsbury’s will open from 7am to 8pm.

- On New Year’s Eve, stores will be open from 7am to 7pm and open from 10am to 4pm on New Year’s Day.

- On January 2 stores will open from 9am to 7pm and normal opening hours will apply form January 3 2017.

- All Sainsbury’s Local stores will be open as normal during the festive period apart from being closed on Christmas Day.

Asda

- Asda stores in Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham and Havant will open from 6am to 7pm on Christmas Eve and close for Christmas Day.

- Stores will open from 9am to 6pm on Boxing Day.

- On New Year’s Eve, Asda will be open from 7am to 7pm and open 10am to 6pm on New Year’s Day.

- Normal opening times will resume on December 27 to December 30 and from January 2 2017.

Morrisons

- All Morrisons stores will be closed on Christmas Day.

- Stores in Victory Retail Park, Commercial Centre, Horndean and Gosport will open from 6am to midnight from December 21 to December 23.

- On Christmas Eve stores will open from 6am until 6pm.

- On Boxing Day, Morrisons will be open from 9am to 5pm and 8am to 6pm on December 27. Normal opening hours apply from December 28 to December 30.

- On New Year’s Eve, the shops will be open from 7am to 7pm and 10am to 4pm on New Year’s Day.

- On January 2, stores will open from 9am to 6pm. Normal opening hours will resume from January 3.

Waitrose

- Waitrose stores in Southsea, Havant, Gosport and Waterlooville will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

- On Christmas Eve, all stores will open from 7.30am to 6pm. On December 27, all stores will open from 8am to 6pm.

- From December 28 to December 30 stores will open from 8am to 8pm (until 9pm for Southsea and Waterlooville branches).

- On New Year’s Eve, all stores will open from 8am to 6pm and will close on New Year’s Day.

- On January 2 2017, stores will open from 8am to 6pm. Normal opening hours will resume on January 3 2017.

Aldi

- Aldi stores in Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport and Havant will be open from 8am to 6pm on Christmas Eve and close on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. - From December 27 to December 30, stores will open from 8am to 10pm.

- On New Year’s Eve, the stores will be open from 8am to 6pm and close on New Year’s Day.

Lidl

- Lidl stores in Leigh Park, Gosport, Fratton, Waterlooville, Hilsea, Fareham and Portchester will open until late from December 21 to December 23 (7am-11pm).

- On Christmas Eve, stores will open from 7am-6pm. All stores will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

- From December 27 to December 30, normal opening times will apply (7am-11pm).

- On New Year’s Eve, stores will open until 6pm and close on New Year’s Day. From January 2 2017, normal opening times will resume.

Gunwharf Quays

- From December 19 to December 23, Gunwharf Quays will open from 10am to 8pm.

- The complex will then open on Christmas Eve from 9am until 5pm and will then close on Christmas Day. Shopping reconvenes on Boxing Day from 9am until 5pm.

- Normal shopping then applies until New Years Eve when Gunwharf will open from 9am until 5pm.

- On New Year’s Day stores will open at 10am until 6pm and normal hours will apply from January 2 2017.

Cascades

- Cascades will be offering late night shopping every Thursday until 10pm. On Christmas Eve the centre will open from 8am until 4.30pm and close on Christmas Day.

- On Boxing Day, stores will open from 8am to 6pm and normal opening hours will apply until New Year’s Eve when shops will open from 8am to 4.30pm.

- On New Year’s Day, Cascades will open from 10.30am to 4.30pm and normal opening times will apply from January 2 2017.

Fareham Shopping Centre

- Fareham Shopping Centre will also offer late night shopping every Thursday until Christmas Eve from 8am until 8pm. The centre will then open on Christmas Eve, from 8am till 4pm.

- All shops will close on Christmas Day and open for Boxing Day from 10am till 4pm.

- On December 27, shops will open from 9am until 5.30pm and normal opening hours will apply until New Year’s Eve.

- On New Years Eve, stores will open from 9am until 5.30pm and open on New Year’s Day from 10am until 4pm.

- On January 2 2017, stores will open from 10am until 4pm and normal hours will apply from January 3.

Meridian Shopping Centre, Havant

- The Havant shopping centre will open for late night shopping on Thursdays (8am until 10pm).

- On December 23 shops will be open from 8am until 8pm and on Christmas Eve, from 8am until 5pm. The centre will close on Christmas Day and open from 9.30am until 4.30pm on Boxing Day and December 27.

- Normal opening hours will apply until New Year’s Eve when stores will open from 8am to 5.30pm.

- Shops will then close on New Year’s Day and open on January 2 2017 from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Normal opening times will apply from then onwards.
