Work resumes at Trafalgar Gate after traffic chaos

Work has been restarted at a Portsmouth naval base after motorists were caught in long traffic jams around the site.

The Royal Navy has been carrying out work at Trafalgar Gate for three weeks, leading to long traffic jams both in and out of the city.

Drivers took to social media on Friday to complain about the long delays especially in the area near Gunwharf Quays and the Historic Dockyard.

Stuart Clark commented on our Facebook page: ‘Whole of Portsmouth is having problems at the moment; I get stuck in the daily queue to leave the dockyard and I’m not surprised it’s spilling all the way back to Gunwharf.’

And Gillian Ralls commented: ‘Too many people, too little space, it’s not rocket science and affects the Park and Ride also.’

The works at Trafalgar Gate will continue up until March 2017 ahead of the arrival of HMS Queen Elizabeth.
