Dating back to the 15th century, the Hot Walls Studios were previously artillery barracks.

This site is part of a £1.75m development from the government’s coastal communities fund, and an additional £40,000 from the Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (Push) and £100,000 from Portsmouth City Council.

Once complete there will be 13 artist studios, as well as an eatery called The Canteen.

Cllr Linda Symes, cabinet member for culture, said: ‘Portsmouth has a thriving creative industry and affordable studios are in demand. It’s important to invest in our local talent and make sure this continues to grow.

‘I’m looking forward to this summer’s opening.’
