A CAMPAIGN is urging firms to take on apprentices to give them a foothoild in the jobs world.
Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has made it a priority to encourage employers to take on a graduate and apprentice intern in an effort to improve people’s prospects.
Anne-Marie Mountifield, Solent LEP chief executive said: ‘Providing employment opportunities for young people is critical to developing the skills of our future workforce but they have proved to be invaluable to the work of the LEP itself.
Daniel Hughes, 22, was one of the entrants who joined the Solent LEP on a level 3 business and administration apprenticeship in April with hopes to progress to level 4.
He said: ‘Throughout secondary education I had never considered apprenticeships but after four years of entry-level retail work I wanted to find a way to improve my career prospects.’
The apprenticeships have given university and school leavers a wide range of experience to work with influential businesses and local authorities on a daily basis.
Briony Biddle, 23, graduated from university last year and joined the LEP on an event management internship in August.
She said: ‘I’m so grateful to the Solent LEP for giving me opportunities to organise business support and consultation events.’
Through further funding LEP has given college students the opportunity to learn through programmes with local businesses.
