The school was also commended for receiving the Rights Respecting Gold Award from Unicef for its work with refugees and the Red Cross.

A statement from judges said: ‘Admiral Lord Nelson is determined to keep the creative arts and creativity right at the heart of its curriculum. It actively demonstrates ways of delivering more traditional subjects in creative ways. It’s clear that they think about this all the time.’

Julia Wisbey, Curriculum Leader in Performing Arts, commented:

‘As a school we are so proud of getting this award. It’s due to the hard work of our wonderful staff and the passion our young people have for the arts. A huge thank you to everyone.’
