Cash up for grabs for one fortunate student

Gosport Rotary Club is in the process of shortlisting applications for a one-off bursary of £300 which will be awarded to the candidate who best persuades the club how this grant will support them in entering or continuing their studies.

Applications will be followed by a series of interviews for those who make the shortlist – after which a final recipient for the bursary will be selected.

The bursary is open to people who live, or have lived in Gosport, or have been educated in Gosport.

The president of Gosport Rotary Club, Colin Davey, explained the application process in more detail.

He said: ‘Candidates will be short-listed on the basis of the information given in their e-mail.

‘They will then be invited to an interview with the Rotary Club GRABS team in Gosport where they will make a five-minute presentation on their educational aspirations and how the bursary will assist them.

‘This will be followed by some questions and the interview will take approximately 15 minutes. Candidates may bring a friend or family member to accompany them on the day of the meeting – they will not however be part of the interview.

‘The bursary will then be awarded to the candidate who is seen as the most deserving and paid upon proof of acceptance at a university or other higher educational establishment.’

The bursary is presented to the successful candidate by the president of the Rotary Club of Gosport at its weekly meeting.

One previous winner used the bursary to purchase a new laptop for university.
