Coronavirus: crossing patrol services suspended in Hampshire

The decision follows on from the government’s announcement to close schools to all but the children of key workers and vulnerable pupils.

Deputy leader, Councillor Rob Humby, said: ‘Following the government's decision to close schools, the school crossing patrol service is being suspended for the foreseeable future.’

‘I am particularly aware that a number of our crossing patrol officers are in vulnerable groups and mindful of government advice regarding the coronavirus outbreak in respect of social distancing and self-isolation.

‘It would not be possible to maintain a full service in this respect. We are responding to an unprecedented and challenging situation.’

The latest advice has been expanded and advises that those who are at increased risk should be particularly mindful of social contact.
