She is one of dozens of people who have requested a nomination form for this year’s Youth Awards, which are run by The News and are now in their third year.

The awards aim to recognise the tremendous contribution young people make to our communities, whether it helping charity, having a talent to show off, or being a friend in times of need.

Cllr Turner was most impressed when she met Wyatt, who attends Riverside Special School in Crookhorn.

She said: ‘Wyatt is a lovely young man who although very disabled fights to live as normal a life as possible.

‘As Mayor of Havant I was honoured to present him with a certificate at The Cubs and Beavers Scouts Awards in Leigh Park.

‘He is long time fostered by the Stanways, a kind couple living on Hayling Island.

A ceremony will take place on June 12 at the Kings Theatre in Southsea.

Jeff Travis, who helps to organise the awards, which are sponsored by Kenwood, said: ‘It’s been quite a slow start, but the nominations are now starting to come in.
