More than 200 children and their families dressed as ghosts, witches and zombies packed into the senior rates mess at HMS Nelson for the brilliant party.

Rachael Ross, the chairman of the association, said: ‘This is one of our regular seasonal events which provide an opportunity for our families to come together to share a range of activities and experiences, and have fun with their friends.

‘The Hallowe’en party is always very popular, as the children love the visual aspects of dressing up, the coloured torches and fluorescent glow sticks, and they really enjoy the dance routines during the disco.

‘We had a fabulous array of costumes this year, ranging from cats, witches and skeletons, to characters from Day of the Dead.

‘It was wonderful to see the children having such a great time.’

Portsmouth DSA provides friendship, support and an extensive range of educational services for children with Down Syndrome.

The organisation is based at the Sarah Duffen Centre in Belmont Street.

Claire Manson is mum to Alfie Talmondt, five, who loved the party.

She said: ‘The Hallowe’en party organised for Portsmouth DSA children and their families was fantastic.

‘The children enjoyed dressing up in their Hallowe’en costumes and dancing the night away with their friends.

‘It is a great opportunity for the children to meet up with their friends, but also for the parents to socialise with other families.

‘We really appreciate all the services, training and social events the charity provides, and the hard work carried out by the charity volunteers, which make these special events possible.’
