Simon Graham, headteacher at St Edmunds Catholic School, speaking about the new grading system said:  '˜Any new system is going to take a few years to get used to.

Students who have achieved grades 7 and 8 for example have done incredibly well, but they're left feeling that they haven't done, because they haven't achieved a 9 - which is a grade gained by only 0.7 per cent of the population.

'˜That's indicative that this system is going to take some education in terms of the population as a whole, in terms of employees and universities.

'˜It's the government that needs to do that, not relying on schools to pick up the pieces.'
