Over 700 Year 7 pupils from Bay House School and Brune Park Community School took part in a day of activities with organisations including the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), English Heritage and the local library.

The RNLI taught the children vital life saving skills and how to stay safe in the water before pupils developed skills of map reading by taking part in a treasure hunt at Fort Brockhurst.

Groups of students also took part in a Ready, Steady Cook style cooking workshop with Aramark Catering.

The day was part of the the Gosport and Fareham Multi-academy Trusts Community Curriculum project to work in partnership with local business and community organisations. The day offered students the opportunity to work in a different environment which ‘can help to boost confidence, resilience and aspirations’.

Assistant Headteacher and Community Curriculum lead, Chris Willis, commented: ‘This was an exceptional day for our schools and community. Via our Community Curriculum students are able to engage with the community organisations, businesses, culture and heritage of our town.

‘Today was the perfect example of our schools working in harmony with the rich resources available in Gosport to help unlock the potential of children.’
