Gosport primary school forced to close after sewage leak

A SCHOOL has been forced to close after sewage leaked into the corridors.

St John’s Church of England Primary in Grove Road, Gosport, announced the emergency closure on social media on Tuesday morning.

Deputy headteacher Carolyn Wilkinson said: ‘We have had a sewage back up, unfortunately it’s come out of the toilets and flowed all over the corridors.

‘We have got someone from services here but it’s not clear whether the playground will need to be dug up.

‘It was clear that that we needed to close the school.

‘We put the reason for the school closure as health at first and we worried that people would think it was an outbreak of E coli or something, so we put that it was sewage.’

In the post on St John’s Facebook page announcing the closure on Tuesday morning, the school added that it should be open on Wednesday however an update is due to be posted later in the day.
