Gosport school wins prize for taking part in Big Pedal

A SCHOOL will be visited by a mountain bike show thanks to pupils' efforts in cycling to school.

Gomer Junior School, in Gosport, took part in the national initiative The Big Pedal last month.

Organised by charity Sustrans, it encouraged children and staff to use their bikes or scooters to get to school.

This year was the second time the school has taken part and it has seen the youngsters win a visit from The Extreme Mountain Bike Show.

Headteacher of the school, off Pyrford Close, Georgina Mulhall said: ‘It is very important that we support initiatives such as The Big Pedal.

‘They are fun and help to keep our children active and fit.

‘Gomer Junior is committed to providing lots of sports-based opportunities for our community.’

Last year 60 per cent of pupils and staff took part in the event. This year, it is hoped that 75 per cent of pupils and teachers participated.
