‘We know each other’s strengths so well and we can’t wait to work together.’

After creating a virtual video tour of the school for prospective Year 6 parents and students unable to attend in person due to Covid restrictions, Martin and Wendy are now turning their attention to tackling the mental health problems in the pandemic.

Wendy said: ‘It has been quite overwhelming coming back to school and the pandemic has really brought young people’s mental health problems and anxieties to the fore.

‘We are hoping to introduce a time-out system where students struggling in lessons can take some time to speak to the prefect team.

Martin added: ‘Six months out of school and not knowing how exams are going to be assessed has made it difficult for some people to adjust. We want to support pupils with their anxieties to help them feel better.’

Headteacher Mrs Summerfield, believes the twins will prove to be ‘exceptional role models’.

She said: ‘I’m very proud and couldn’t wish for better students to represent the college at this difficult time.’

Student Voice lead Layla Funnel, added: ‘I’ve been here 14 years and this is the first time I’ve known a brother and sister to be elected. They are perfect role models.’

The talented twins have already taken three of their GCSEs a year early and while they’re looking forward to their new roles they still have the usual teenage sibling disagreements.

Wendy said: ‘We are really close but there are some disagreements – sometimes Martin does play his guitar too loud.’
