'˜I am just really proud of myself': Fareham students celebrate as they open their GCSE resultsÂ

WITH a new grading system and tougher exams, pupils across Fareham were anxious to open their envelope today to find out if the hard work had paid off.

There were tears of joy and smiles of relief from staff, parents and Year 11 pupils in Fareham as they found out their GCSE results.

Abbi Mustafa from Henry Cort Community College was the top achiever at her secondary school scoring seven 9s, an 8 and a 6.

The 16-year-old said: '˜I am really pleased with myself because I really prepared myself to have done worse so I am so proud.'

Mum, Sarah Mustafa said: '˜I am so proud of her and she has worked incredibly hard to achieve these amazing results. There was a financial reward for her grades so I am now significantly poorer as she has done so well.'

Head boy Oliver Bridges and head girl Myah Ojla also led from the front achieving high across the board and exceeding expectations.

Oliver got six 9s, 8 and a 7 and is going on to study at Peter Symonds College in Winchester.

The 16-year-old said: '˜I think I revised too much but in the end it was worth it and I am really pleased.'

Two 9s, three 8s, three 7s, one 6 and an A* will see Myah off to Barton Peveril in a couple of weeks.

The 16-year-old said: '˜I am absolutely speechless and it means all the hard work I have put in over the last few months have paid off. I want to thank the teachers for their support because it is all down to them that I have got here.'

Headteacher Claudia Cubbage said: '˜I am massively proud of all our students especially Abbi as our top achiever. It is also amazing that our head boy and head girl have done so well and I am so proud of them also.

'˜Overall we have had some amazing results and our science grades have amazed us as last year we got 56 per cent pass rate and this year we achieved 79 per cent.

Pupils at Fareham Academy were also celebrating after 80 per cent of them achieved a grade 4 or higher in English, maths and science. 

Headteacher Adele Deasy said: '˜Fareham Academy students will proudly be able to move onto their next steps having achieved the best grades.

'˜Our top student Ellen Flewitt achieved a grade 9 in all eleven of her subjects which is higher than an A*.

'˜Across the school, English, maths and science stand confidently at 80 per cent for grades 4 alongside our creative subjects, music, drama, textiles and art, where students achieved up to 90 per cent.

'˜We are excited to celebrate the achievements of the class of 2018 and they are respectful and confident young adults with the first class qualifications to flourish.'

Tashin Hussain got three 8s, three 7s, two 6s, a 5 and an A.

She said: '˜I am just really proud of myself and I did work so hard so I was so happy when I opened the envelope and saw a 7 and 8 on the sheet.'

Friend Luke Bennett was also pleased after achieving an 8, three 7s, two 6s, a 5, an A and an A*. 

He said: '˜Last year when I was doing my mocks they were not the best especially in my Maths as I got a 5 so I worked really hard and I got an 8 so I am really pleased.'

Amber Coultham was worried her inconsistency across her mock exams would be repeated in her GCSE results.

The 16-year-old said: '˜I was worried but when I opened the envelope I was so pleased that my results were consistent across the board and I didn't think it was going to go as well.'

Amber got two 8s, five 7s, one 6, a 5 and an A* and is off to study at Peter Symonds. 

Cams Hill School had 82 per cent of pupils achieve a grade 4 or higher in English and maths which was up two per cent from last year.

Headteacher Gwen Harrison-Jones said: '˜Our pupils worked so hard this year and we are so proud of what they have achieved.'

Student David Chen achieved grade 9s in all of his subjects and an extra A* in Further Maths.

Annabelle Roberts was overjoyed after getting two 9s, two 8s, two 7s, a 6 and a 4.

She said: '˜I am so shocked and really happy.'

Mum Julie added; '˜I am so proud of her and she has worked incredibly hard and deserves her amazing results.'

Students and staff at Meoncross School were also celebrating after 95 per cent of Year 11 got grade 4 or higher for Maths and English with 43 per cent of all grades were a level 7 or above.

Sarah Ebery, who has been Headmistress for the last four years, said: '˜I am delighted to have seen this year group achieve such fantastic results.

'˜There is a wealth of personalities whose contributions are much wider than even these excellent examination results show.'

Particular individual successes included Ciara Foley, Head Girl, who achieved eight 9s and Caden Plasa, whose grades include eight 9s and an A in additional mathematics.

New headmaster Mark Cripps added: '˜We are immensely proud of our students '“ they have done fantastically well.

'˜Meoncross School performs well above the national picture yet again.'
