Prestigious education award for St Vincent College, Gosport careers manager who's helped thousands of young people and adults

The Hampshire Education Futures Award reflects his dedication, professionalism and passion for supporting the careers and aspirations of young people across the region.

The Hampshire Education Awards were established as a means of recognising and celebrating the contribution of staff and volunteers within the county’s education system. The intention is to say thank you to all those involved in the county's schools and colleges through honouring nominees who make a real difference to the life opportunities of children and young people and, where appropriate, their families or communities.

The ceremony was held in the Great Hall, Winchester with those shortlisted exhibiting professional characteristics and knowledge, skills and understanding in their field that have a discernible impact on students and standing as professional models for others.

Alistair has worked at St Vincent for the past eight years and has spearheaded the development of careers services, not only within the college but across the peninsula. His dedication to information, advice and guidance services has seen a continuing increase in the number of St Vincent students progressing to higher education upon completion of college.

Alistair said: ‘It was an absolute honour to be shortlisted, but to win is another level. I can’t express how surprised I was to receive this award, but at the same time it’s fantastic to have mine and St Vincent’s hard work recognised. We put every effort into helping every student who walks through our doors and we will continue to do so for years to come.’

The Futures Award follows St Vincent receiving a 'good' rating, with some areas of teaching and learning recognised as 'outstanding', including the careers services led by Alistair, following a visit from Ofsted inspectors last year.

The report also highlighted the key strengths of the college in supporting students to succeed and progress to higher education, training and employment opportunities.

Head of College Andy Grant said: ‘Alistair is loved by both students and staff at the college. We are thrilled that his consistently exceptional levels of support, service and guidance for our learners have been recognised at such a prestigious level. Our students benefit hugely from the services that Alistair and his team provide and we look forward to countless new learners benefiting from his work in the future’.
