Principal meets Queen to pick up top honour

Portsmouth College principal Steve Frampton was made an MBE at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace earlier this week.

Mr Frampton, who was accompanied by his wife and two children, was presented his medal by the Queen.

Mr Frampton said: ‘It was really thrilling, and I am very proud to be representing my city, college, staff, family and friends.

‘The recognition is a huge honour for us all.’

Mr Frampton, 58, of Gosport, was given the honour for his 35 years of service to post-16 education, in many roles and colleges, and at all levels – teacher, manager, leader, principal, Ofsted chief examiner, author, and more.

People across the city and throughout the college have been delighted by the award.

Chairman of governors Nick Wynne said: ‘Steve deserves this recognition for his timeless commitment in improving the education and expectations of our students at Portsmouth College.’

Portsmouth City Council leader Donna Jones also praised Steve’s ‘inspirational leadership’.

She said: ‘Steve’s dedication to education is unquestionable and he is very worthy of his recent honour.’

Simon Barrable, deputy principal and long-time friend of Mr Frampton, said: ‘Everyone at the college – governors, staff and students – are over the moon about Steve’s MBE.

‘We are all extremely proud of him and all he has achieved, and we are sure that all who know him feel the same.’
