Pupils get a special treat

A GROUP of young people from a special school found out for themselves what it is like to sail a cross-Solent ferry on a visit to Wightlink Ferries.

Captain Matt Mullins and the crew welcomed the group of 12 from Redwood Park School in Cosham to the bridge of the company’s flagship St Clare, which carries thousands of passengers and vehicles every day between Portsmouth and Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight.

Teaching assistant Alyson Pearson said: ‘Some of our students had not been out of the city before. They loved the views from the bridge and were amazed when the crew told us the horizon was 30 miles away. We had a great time on board.’

The visit was organised as a reward for good behaviour for eight pupils aged 14 and 15.
