Pupils win praise for skills with numbers

A SECONDARY school has been praised for its mathematics skills.

Students at The Henry Cort Community College, in Fareham, achieved two gold, five silver and 11 bronze certificates in this year’s UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Junior Maths Challenge.

More than 250,000 students from across the UK sat the challenge – aimed at students in Years 9 to 11 – with the top six per cent receiving a gold certificate.

Year 8 Georgia Hewett, 12, was best in the year with 100 points (out of 135). Ethan Farrell, 13, was also awarded a gold certificate. Year 7 student, Isabelle Kimberley, 12, was awarded a silver along with a best in year certificate.

Rachel Greenhalgh UKMT executive director said: ‘Many congratulations to Henry Cort on their success in the Junior Maths Challenge; it is great to see achievement in mathematics recognised.’

Headteacher Claudia Cubbage said: ‘I’m immensely proud of the students who took part and am delighted to see so many achieve certificates.’
