School with no heating or hot water closes

A secondary school was closed yesterday because it had no heating or hot water.

St Edmund’s Catholic School in Arundel Street was shut to pupils in Years 7 to 10 because of the outage.

A message on the school’s website said: ‘Due to no heating or hot water in the main school building the school is closed today for all Year 7 to 10 students.

‘The school will remain open for all Year 11 students.

‘Apologies for any inconvenience.’

The school closure comes as temperatures barely reached above freezing across the area yesterday.

Several places including Cosham, Paulsgrove, Somerstown, Leigh Park and Swanmore near Fareham saw snow although it did not fall for long.

The Met Office has said the Portsmouth area can expect more snow as the week goes on with Thursday’s temperature feeling like -11C.
