Southsea teachers clean the beach

More than 80 teachers from Portsmouth High School in Southsea took part in the clear-up on Southsea Common and the beach.

It was part of the school’s range of social responsibility activities.

Lucinda Webb, from the school on Kent Road, said: ‘The school takes social responsibility very seriously and teaches the girls, from a very young age, to be helpful and active within the community they live in and the wider world.

‘The school has social responsibility embedded into its culture and everyone is encouraged to be responsible for their own actions thus ensuring the welfare of those immediately around them and also that of their wider community.

‘The school works to ensure that everyone in the organisation sees the importance of social responsibility overall and not just with those who provide direct benefits to the school.’

The projects completed by staff and students are undertaken at local, national and international levels. They are often chosen by the pupils themselves who are guided to ensure that the project is suitable, relevant and achievable.
