Students are inspired by life-saving training

The emergency first aid workshops were delivered to Year 9 pupils by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Service.

During the LifeLine Workshops students learned about the procedures of dealing with day-to-day emergencies. 

Student Lauren said: '˜The workshop really opened my eyes and showed me what it is like to work for the air ambulance.'

Principal Christian Down added: '˜It was a pleasure to welcome HIOWAA to our academy. The ambulance service does fantastic work and it was important for our students to hear first-hand what they do.'

In addition to providing expert training the visit was also designed to promote the work carried out by the charity. As a result of the visit 30 students have now committed themselves to raise funds to help support the £9000 per day running costs.

Mr Down said that the visit had also inspired a number of students to look into the air ambulance service as a potential career.

'˜It has given our students an insight into a rewarding career and it is great that a number of them now want to find out more about what a career in the air ambulance service might involve,' explained Mr Down.

'˜I am now looking into a career with HIOWWA and who knows I could be their first female pilot,' added Lauren.
