Headteacher David Jeapes said: ‘We have got the best-ever results for the school, over 54 per cent have got five A* to C including English and maths, but really importantly on the new Progress 8 measure the government has just introduced, we have done really well.

‘We are very pleased that so many of our pupils have made such brilliant progress.’

When league tables are published in 2017, it will be the key performance measure, alongside traditional methods such as the percentage of pupils obtaining five A* to C grades.

Each school will receive a Progress 8 score, based on the average taken from pupils – enabling performance to be assessed as a whole.

Mr Jeapes said that Mayfield had a Progress 8 score of 0.09 – a score of +1.0 is excellent and -1 is poor.

Principal Dame Sharon Hollows said: ‘The figures are very pleasing, there was a bit of a disappointment in maths as yet again the grade boundaries have been changed.

‘However, overall the standards have increased.

‘We have seen a massive improvement in A*s, As and Bs, which we are very pleased about.’

The school scored 0.5 in the Progress 8 rating. It saw 68 per cent of students attaining five A* to C grades including English and maths.
