THE Tall Ships Youth Trust has welcomed a donation of £2,500 to help it survive the pandemic.

The donation from the Maximus Foundation UK is part of £95,000 given to local charities struggling during the Covid crisis.

The Portsmouth based charity helps young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to redefine their horizons through the adventure of learning at sea.

Chief executive Richard Leaman said: ‘We are obviously delighted and grateful for this donation which will help us get through a year without being able to sail.’

The charity are hopeful a new testing system will enable it set sail as the country emerges from lockdown.
