Teacher and class sent home to isolate after confirmed case of Covid-19 at Fareham College

College principal, Andrew Kaye, said: ‘On Monday we were informed that one of our students has tested positive for Covid-19. We have followed our protocols which have been set in line with government guidance, and informed Public Health England and instructed the teacher and the rest of the class to self-isolate for 14 days.’

The current government guidelines for colleges states that once a person has had a positive Covid test, principals and college leaders ‘must send home those people who have been in close contact with the person who has tested positive’. The guidelines state those identified then have to ‘self-isolate for 14 days since they were last in close contact with that person when they were infectious’.

Mr Kaye added: ‘Public Health England have confirmed the actions we have taken are appropriate and all students who were in the same class as this case have been contacted.’

Mr Kaye highlighted the measures being taken by the college to prevent the spread of the virus.

He said: ‘We take the health and safety of our college community very seriously and had already put measures in place so that all students, staff and visitors are required to wear face coverings in corridors and communal areas around the college, unless otherwise exempt on medical grounds.

‘Students must also remain within their student class bubbles and remember to practise good hygiene and social distancing measures.’
