Teachers from Gosport school take part in sky dive

A HEADTEACHER and her deputy jumped out of a plane to raise more than £1,000 for charity.

Emma Steele and Kate Ashman, from Haselworth Primary School in Gosport, took to the skies for charity The British Limbless Ex Servicemen’s Association.

The school held a disability workshop run by Richard Hunt, a wounded veteran, and the children wanted to raise money to help injured armed forces personnel.

As well as holding a film night which raised £133 for the Queen Alexandra Hospital Home in Sussex – which supports physically disabled ex-servicemen and women – the pupils convinced Emma and Kate to do a tandem skydive.

Kate, deputy headteacher of the school in Gosport, said: ‘The children persuaded myself and Mrs Steele to challenge ourselves, just as Richard had done, and do a sky dive for charity.

‘The jump is called “Fall for the Fallen” to commemorate more than one million people who fell at the Battle of the Somme.

‘It is something we’ve never done before and it took us out of our comfort zones.

‘We always tell the pupils to challenge themselves so we decided to challenge ourselves too.’

The sky dive took place earlier this month in Wiltshire.

The daring pair managed to raise £1,400 for the charity thanks to the generosity of pupils, parents and fellow teachers.
